Skeet shooting is a wonderful sport that has been around for a long time. Without going into the history
of the sport, American Skeet has evolved into the course layout that you see at our club.
Targets are thrown from two locations. One target exists from the High House (on your left, facing the
field), and the other from a smaller Low House (on the right). Each target travels approximately 45 miles
per hour as it leaves the launcher. Both targets never vary from their course.
Each round of 25 Skeet targets is shot from eight different shooting locations. Seven shooting stations
are located on a half circle beginning and ending at the houses. The eighth station is located between
both houses. Targets are presented individually at each station, and as pairs from stations 1-2-6 and 7.
There is a variation of Skeet called ‘Doubles’ where only pairs of targets are shot from each station.
Skeet can be shot with any shotgun in a gauge from 12 gauge down to the .410. Our operating hours are
usually from 1 p.m. til dark on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
Here is what you will need to bring:
· Any shotgun in any gauge
· Safety glasses (Regular Prescription eyewear with plastic lenses are fine)
· Ear plugs or muffs
Only shells with shot size 7 ½, 8 or 9’s can be used on the fields. Please, no hunting loads with shot
size 6, 4, 2, BB or buckshot. Ammo, eye and ear protection is available for purchase in our clubhouse.
We ask that you, your children or your guests be thoroughly familiar with our GGC safety procedures and
safe handling and operation of shotguns before you come out to the Skeet fields. When you arrive at our
club, the first thing that you will do when removing your shotgun from the car is open the action. The
action will remain open for the entire time you are at the club. The only time the action will be closed is
when you are on the station, and it is your turn to shoot. Immediately after your shot, you will open your
shotgun and leave the station. Please take your empties with you. If you’re shooting an automatic,
please pick up your shells at the end of the round.
If this your first time on a Skeet field, please ask other members for a few pointers!!!
